FOR EVENT MARKETING, (5) SIMPLE RULES TO STAND OUT!

Jeff Abramson VP of Sales and Marketing

We live in an age of ever-tightening marketing campaign dollars that companies spend for events. In addition, we now face much smaller marketing staffs to execute a successful campaign. We, as marketers, are asked to do way more for way less. Sound familiar? The strain on your company personnel's time and budget is no different than the strain that other marcom departments are dealing with! With this need to be cost-cutting comes the need to still make a big splash and to make your message, theme or campaign unique and stand out.

Here are (5) simple rules to make your brand message stand out and get noticed at events! 1. Make it BIG! It is critical that your branding be seen from a distance. There are so many graphic structures and printing processes available to us today to brand your message and make it visible from across a show floor. Today's print technology allows us to create larger-than-life graphics that will attract and engage your audience- all at dramatic cost savings compared to graphics and structures produced from just a few years ago. Use of new print vinyls and stretch tension fabrics will help to engage your audience and reinforce the message without breaking your budget!

2. Make it BRIGHT! New high-definition printers allow us to design and create "photo-realistic" imagery in large-format. Images that are bright stand out. The use of lighting effects to create better color saturation will only increase the impact. Bright illuminated images draw attendees in much like moths are drawn in to a flame.

3. Splash COLOR! Be creative! In an effort to look corporate, most logos today are produced in boring blues and greys. But just because your logo is blue, doesn't mean that your graphics must be blue. Use warm colors, like reds, yellows, and oranges to draw their eyes. Cool pastels are great for more subtle environments. Color is highly engaging! Whether you are planning for a meeting or a trade show, color can define your environment! Keep it consistent, uniform and memorable!

4. Keep It SIMPLE! Avoid clutter and keep text and information brief within graphic areas. Create a message that is memorable, but the less you say and print, the better. Often, we use the 7-word or less doctrine when creating tag lines. Anything more than 7 words loses retention value!

5. Use Appropriate MATERIALS. How often will you be using the graphics and exhibit structures? One time? 5-10 uses? 20-30 uses? More? Which substrates, print processes and exhibit structures are best used based on the frequency? Some materials are more durable than others. Select the print materials and structures that will work best for your application and usage. Choose from dye sub tension fabric graphics, direct printing, and vinyl - each with its own specific application. Can a structure be rented if it is only used at only one event? Even used structures can be made available by your exhibit house to help meet tighter budgets. So much goes into creating an event that will exceed your expectations. Theme, color, lighting, shapes, and size are all critical elements. Check with your exhibit and graphics suppliers for ideas and event solutions that will push the envelope!
